The air conditioning system is a creature comfort… the value is in keeping the passengers cool. The one exception is when you use your defrosters. Then it dries the air out, removing the steam condensing on glass.
You’ll need to service/charge the system periodically because so far there is no technology to completely stop leakage. They lose approx. 3-4 ounces of refrigerant per year. R134A is the current refrigerant in use. It leaks less than previous types because of larger molecules and is also more environmentally friendly.
